Concept and ideas
Ghostly escape is an arcade game. The concept behind it was that we had to make use of the homemade arcade box made by the teachers. It also needed to be a local two player game. This is why we choose the concept of the two friends escaping the haunted forest together.
Development
The development of this game was straightforward.
We came up with the movement scheme: both characters are able to move on a grid up and down, left and right. Then we started implementing the ideas adding new features along the way where necessary.
The issues we faced where more related to constantly changing the inputs for the game as the file explaining which input was what on the arcade box was wrong multiple times.
In the end we did manage to make a working game. But there were some left over visual bugs: bullets disappearing behind enemies or effects appearing on half the objects at one point then all op them at a later point.
We all agreed that if we were to remake it we would do it in 2D, partially to avoid these issues and because we believe it would look better.
